CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

For all those who are concerned about the students who rely on the meals provided at school, please rest assured that both FCPS and LCPS have made contingency plans for the school closings. Students are being served breakfast and lunch at various sites throughout the counties and via school buses delivering meals directly to specific neighborhoods. Please follow their websites and social media pages for details.

The FFN volunteers are staying busy (and safe). We are thankful for the support of local churches where many of our food pantries have relocated temporarily. Weekly food bags are being distributed at some of the schools we support. We've been able to replenish our inventory when pantry supplies run low. We are staying in close contact with our school Principals, Social Workers and Parent Liaisons and continuing to support their efforts to provide weekend food to their students. We have also supplied our highest risk families with gift cards to allow them to stock up on supplies they need at home. All monetary donations are being used thoughtfully and helping to create a meaningful impact on the members of our community right now.

Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to Food For Neighbors!

There are now more than 1,200 kids receiving weekly food support

at 21 area middle and high schools!

Food For Neighbors is a non-profit organization (located in Herndon, VA) helping to feed students who struggle with hunger after school, on weekends, and during school holidays.  We provide local middle and high schools with individual meals and snack items to distribute during these times when students might otherwise go hungry. We connect with their social workers and help the schools set up a weekend snack program or food pantry to distribute the food.

We provide the platform for schools to engage their local community to donate food and gather volunteers that help with picking up donations, sorting the food and distributing to schools in their area. This is done through our Red Bag Program where we distribute Red Bags with a list of items needed and then collect the bags bimonthly on a Saturday. We also provide support and marketing materials for schools to engage their community to recieve in-kind donations from individuals, area businesses, stores and local faith organizations.

Our program began in Herndon, VA, where the local community quickly responded to the need for food at our middle and high schools. Now our students are benefitting weekly from the consistent and reliable source of donated food. FFN has expanded into the Springfield, VA area, the Falls Church area, neighboring schools in Loudoun County and most recently the Fort Hunt, VA area where we are already supporting five schools.

We are excited to expand into other schools in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties! Our goal is to end hunger for middle and high school students who live with food-insecurity.

We appreciate your continued support!
